IPL Winners Details [2008-2023]

2008 – Rajasthan Royals

They defeated CSK in the first IPL, led by Shane Warne, and had veteran players such as Shane Watson, Graeme Smith, Yusuf Pathan, and Sohail Tanvir. Yusuf Pathan contributed to both batting and bowling in the final versus CSK, playing the most important match of his life. He was able to take three crucial wickets at run rate faster than bowler and rapidly score 56 from 39.

2009 – Deccan Chargers

Adam Gilchrist led this team. Pragyan Ojha’s left-arm spin bowling contributed significantly to the team’s success, capturing 18 wickets.Adam Gilchrist scored 495 runs in 16 matches, finishing second in the list of highest run-scorers in the 2009 IPL behind Mathew Hayden.

2010 – Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni won the trophy alongside his strong team members Suresh Raina, Albie Morkel, Mathew Hayden, and Muralitharan in final against the Mumbai Indians, headed by Sachin Tendulkar. Suresh Raina was the greatest batsman on the team, and his 57 not out sealed CSK’s place in the final against the Mumbai Indians.

2011 – Chennai Super Kings

CSK became the first IPL team to win consecutive finals against the batting heavyweights RCB. Mr Cricket and Michael Hussey both had key innings during the IPL 2011 campaign.Murali Vijay and Hussey’s opening partnership of 159 runs against RCB was the ultimate reason for CSK to win the title.

2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders

In the final, KKR defeated the defending champions, the Chennai Super Kings. Bisla took on the responsibility of chasing and answered with courageous inning of 89 from 48 balls, leaving the KKR batters with the daunting task of chasing 190 in the match. Even Suresh Raina’s 73 from 38 did not prevent Kolkata Knight Riders from winning.

2013 – Mumbai Indians

MI, led by Rohit Sharma and featuring players such as Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, and Mitchell Johnson, defeated CSK in the final. The team remained well-balanced throughout the IPL competition. The support of Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, and Mitchell Johnson remained consistent throughout the match.

2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR became the second team to win the IPL trophy multiple times. Manish Pandey was the hero of the 2014 IPL final, allowing KKR to chase an overall total of 199 runs. Robin Uthappa of KKR won the orange crown after scoring 660 runs in 16 innings, while Pandey finished with 94 from 50.

2015 – Mumbai Indians

Won the finals alongside outstanding players like Ambati Rayadu, Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga, Simmons, and Kieron Pollard. Mumbai Indians became the third team to win the IPL season more than once, following CSK. The team’s total togetherness helped them win the title. Lasith Malinga of the bowling team grabbed 24 wickets in the match, which was led by  Slinga Malinga.Dwayne Bravo took two additional wickets off Lasith Malinga.

2016 – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The squad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by barely eight runs. As captain, David Warner effectively led the team. However, IPL 2016 is well known for Virat Kohli’s combination with AB de Villiers in every RCB match. Virat played 16 innings, scoring half-hundreds and four centuries to win the orange cap for the season.

2017 – Mumbai Indians

MI broke the record for becoming the first team to win more than twice. The team won the first time in 2013, and again in 2015. The final was won by single run over the Rising Pune Supergiants.Rohit Sharma’s entire performance as captain of the Mumbai Indians was remarkable.

2018 – Chennai Super Kings

CSK was the second team to win more than two trophies, with veterans including Ambati Rayadu, Dhoni, and Shane Watson. Dhoni played brilliantly and had the finest finishes in the matches. The key reason for their success was their bowling lineup, which comprised MS Dhoni, the captain, and Dwanye Bravo.

2019 – Mumbai Indians

MI faced off against the Chennai Super Kings in the finals. The ultimate clash culminated in the Mumbai Indians becoming champions for the fourth time. The decisive outcome depended on the last bowl. MI became the most successful team in IPL history, capturing their fourth title.

2020 – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won the IPL title for the second time in row in 2020, and for the fifth time overall. The match occurred between MI and Delhi Capitals, and MI won the IPL title by five wickets. The Mumbai Indians also won the Paytm Fairplay Award this year.

2021 – Chennai Super Kings

On October 15, 2021, CSK won by 27 runs over KKR. The final was held in Dubai, where CSK scored 192 runs with only three wickets to overcome KKR by 27 runs. CSK rose to fourth place in the IPL following their victory in 2021. Harshal Patel of RCB became the purple cap holder, while Ruturaj Gaikwad, the most junior player, won the IPL orange cup.

2022 – Gujarat Titans

On May 29, 2022, the Gujarat Titans (qualifier 1) faced the Rajasthan Royals (qualifier 2) in the IPL 2022 final. GT won the tournament by seven wickets, with Jos Buttler scoring 863 runs in 17 matches, including four hundreds and four fifties, the highest total. The following teams were featured in the IPL 2022 competition: Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first team to lead with 20 points. The team played 14 matches, winning ten of them.

2023: Chennai Super Kings

On May 29, 2023, the Chennai Super Kings took on the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 Final Match.
